Vignettes — Malcolm Guite

Nov 10, 2010 by

Malcolm Guite – magical, mesmerizing Malcolm Guite – poet, chaplain, musician, wordsmith extraordinaire. Dazzling capacities carefully concealed in the guise of a gentle and humble man, sporting twinkling eyes, kindness and piercing clarity of vision. Malcolm is an international treasure whose extraordinary worth as a poet and prose writer is beyond real measure. His writing fairly drips with life off every line. I stand in awe of such grace-filled power given with such generosity and humility. Delicious is a perfect word to use for his work. His poetry is the most hypnotically compelling writing that I have read since Lewis’ work. I believe that Malcolm Guite is the most gifted and brilliant poet of our age. I don’t say that lightly.

A moment of sweet, surreal happiness for Malcolm Guite

Yet what dazzles me most with Malcolm is his kindness with people and the way he makes himself accessible without fanfare or hoopla. In that Malcolm reminds of me Jesus and Noel Stookey. I don’t think Jesus will mind the comparison. On a deeper, more sensory level Malcolm carries the wild quality of ancient England – England older in some ways than our memories can hold. The essence of old forests and living soil, of ivy and holly, and old good wine, something wild and free, all cling to him like a fragrance one can’t quite define but sense. The Green Man. Things that the wild God loves and tends still, keeping them safe for us, and from us, just beyond our reach for now, but someday ours with Him.

Give yourself a deep, steady drink of pure, poetic soul refreshing and subscribe to his feeds.
